Recently Robin and I have been working together to create a play kitchen for Rory and Rose to enjoy together. We found this piece of junk furniture on a local 'used' website. It was just $30!
Robin took the top off and removed the doors. He rehung the right door so it would open downwards, like a proper oven door.
Then he added some shelves and a partition wall. I painted the inside of the oven black with some chalkboard paint.
Rory helped with some sanding and then the unit got its first coat of blue paint.
Another coat of blue paint and a couple of yellow and this is what it looked like.
You might be able to see that Robin had already cut a hole for the sink to sit in and had put in a shelf!
I used some more chalkboard paint to create an oven door and the burners.
I had bought some IKEA place mats which I cut up and stuck on to make a back splash.
Then Robin stuck the sink bowl in (an old stainless steel mixing bowl) and put in the taps (which we'd found in a reclaim store).
We added some hooks to the side of the unit to hang some aprons, a chef's hat and an oven glove, which I'd made.
Some drawer knobs became burner knobs. It seemed the perfect place to hang a pot grab!
I attached a curtain that I'd made using some velcro and the kitchen was finished!!
Tomorrow Rose and I will visit IKEA to pick up some play pots and pans etc, while Rory is at school. I'm excited to see them play with the kitchen! Pictures of kitchen fun will definitely follow!!
